Wendy E-News- [581 days of US journey ends on April 7, brand new journey starts since April 8!]

Dear my friends,

I have fought the wonderful battle. Time to go home. I will arrive at Taipei in the evening of April 8 to the world where I can use my mother tongue every single minute. Indeed, I will be home soon.

I based in Chicago to hunt for a job within the previous three months. I submitted resumes onto online major US job boards; talked to head hunters for opportunities; networking with Northwestern/IMC alum; involved in events hosted by Taiwanese American associations; Interviewed for several times; made draft strategic marketing proposals for potential employers; self-training for two intense weeks to pick up my Japanese to prepare for a Japanese interview and luckily got recognized. Although I ended up with nothing tangible at hand due to the recession and to my employment status (non American), I am satisfied with all the sweat and tears I have shed so far. Without any regret.

Supports and encouragement from family and friends were all received, via video chat, MSN, Skype, postcards, SMS or every single creative way. I cherished them all very dearly, and those made me smile. Professors and alums from Northwestern University/the IMC program, classmates and IMC '09s, my generous neighbors in 1121 Church, other MA/MS/PhD fellows in Northwestern who treat your labs as home, NTU classmates and alum as well as NTUMUN folks who are currently all over the places in the US, O'Neils and Mr. Kerry who have taken care of me just like taking care of one of their family members, everyone who I met in all sorts of social events/occasions and then became super supportive to my struggles: This three months were much tougher to go through than I could ever imagine. Without your concern, your shoulder your warm hug, your sincere experience sharing and current situation analysis, the tissue you passed over to me, those dinners and glasses of celebrations...... I have no idea how I can ever look back without having a smile on my face.

I will start another round of job hunting after I go back to Taiwan. My target industries/fields are still similar: E-Commerce, online community, digital marketing. For instance, I will apply for Yahoo! Taiwan and Amazon. Options are as well open for PR/advertising/marketing agencies. As for the location preference: Taiwan and the nearby Asian countries: majorly China (Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong), Singapore and Japan. I believe you would understand that these are just some of my initial thoughts. Any valuable opportunities outside of this box are welcomed. So are valuable connections. My only strength is my passion for new challenges and opportunities everywhere. Sky is the limit.

Family and friends in Taiwan, I wil see you later!
Friends in every corner of the world, keep in touch! We will meet again some time in our lives :)

Love,
Wendy

Wendy

Wendy

Turning Point March 20, 2009

This is the deadline I gave myself, and also the deadline for my potential employer. In some hours I will hear back from them to see if I will continue the journey here or I will start a new journey back to where I am from- Taiwan/Asia.

What I can do now is hope for the best, be patient and optimistic. All I can rely on now is you, my dear Father my God. I have faith in you. I know you have prepared the best plan for me and for my life. I will celebrate with a big smile on my face whatever response I receive tomorrow. I might cry, but that will be thanks to gratitude. Because I know you are with me, no matter what. You are with me.

To Fall In Love With.....Adamo

Elegant design, 1.64 mm thickness, excellent performance, 4 hours and 53 minutes battery life, wireless, blue tooth and numerous other attractive elements. This, is Adamo, Dell's new laptop. Thanks to "Dell Targets Fashion-Conscious Laptop Buyer " on Media Post, I got to hear about this new product and went to visit its classic Web site with black-and-white old fashioned yet charming photos. The explore on http://www.adamobydell.com/ was pleasant, because I truly loved the way Dell tried to tell the story. "Encounter", "Discover", "Admire", and "Commit" tags on the top are simple, easy to understand, and gracious. I can clearly see how much the Dell people love this brand while watching the video clip in "Encounter." It is apparent that they all fall in love with....Adamo.

The background music also perfectly flew with my exploration instead of interrupting me while I changed to other pages. If you have a minute, you should also go check its different language versions (choose language from the bottom left side) and observe its slightly different offering across the world. From my personal observation, the US version and the Hong Kong version got different accessories available.

I don't know how well will Adamo sell, but I am certain that it has done a brilliant job in marketing. Let's appreciate it, shall we?
Dell Targets Fashion-Conscious Laptop Buyer
A laptop can say so much more about a person than that they are professionals. With a new sleek design and what the company calls "the world's thinnest laptop," Dell is eschewing the traditional talk of gigabytes and megahertz to appeal to a more fashion-oriented part of the brain with the launch of its new Adamo line of computers..... continue reading

Walt Mossberg Reviews Amazon's Kindle 2

I am not an owner of a Kindle because it is too expensive for me, also as Walt has mentioned in his later comments. So, it is good to hear an expert like him to talk about this device's value, its difference from the earlier version, and the next big thing related to Kindle contents. Maybe I should consider buying one or waiting to try the next generation Kindle when it is available. Enjoy the clip!

As Expected

Was called, and finally was listened to. I knew you would be the one who responded to the message, and I was so pleased to find that you indeed noticed it and took action. Exactly as considerate as you always are. Exactly as what I predicted to happen.

Still thrilled to see your name shown on the screen, not to mention to hear from you. As chicken as I always am, I just repeated those nonsense and the unnecessary background fact. Yes, was still too afraid to tell you those emotions beyond the surface panic. Still chose to describe the situation in the delighted, not-to-worry tone instead of the cry-out-for-help one.

You did, in your very kind way. Squeezed time from your overly-packed schedule. Squeezed attention from all those important tasks you're working on. Truly appreciated.....

Guarding Angel for Mercedes Owner- Easy Task

Have never seen a car ads like this! This is super cute~ Through the conversation between two guarding angels, audiences easily got the point that Mercedes is very safe, and so the guarding angel for a Mercedes owner has nothing too much to do. Clear impression. Simple message. Fresh practice. Do you think this ads would work better for female buyers than male?

Chicago River Turned Green for St. Patrick's Day!

How green? This green:
From 090314-St.Patrick's Day
Jeez, how come? They dyed it. Yes, they dyed Chicago River into this Irish green for one day. Every year, the Saturday before the actual St. Patrick's day, Chicago has the St. Patrick's Day parade and at the same time dyed the river. I did not have the chance to see it myself last year, because I was too busy working on my finals. Luckily this year, thanks to my roommate's invitation, I got the chance to step out and step into the crowd downtown Chicago for the greenest day ever in a year. How green again? This green:

From 090314-St.Patrick's Day
So many people on the street put together all the greenish clothes, hats, scarves, gloves, hair bands, socks, glasses on them for this day. I felt sorry for having no green on me anywhere (I just seriously do not have any green clothes or accessories with me). Coming back to the parade: frankly it was so so. Maybe it was also because my friends and I failed to squeeze ourselves into the front rolls to enjoy it, and unfortunately we were too tiny to see anything from the back end. We did try, and we purely enjoyed the atmosphere to be in the crowd with this crazy celebrations. We also ate lunch at a famous Irish restaurant/bar called The Gage after we thought that we have seen enough parade. My Fish & Chips didn't let me down, but serious NOs for their sandwiches. Some Guinness is good, some Irish Ale is good, too, but watch out for those over drinking pals on the street~

Oh well, I still love this sunny green day :)

Meow~ Stacey's George, Tiger and my Pipi

I got a sudden phone call from Stacey, my younger sister in the host-family. She invited me to hangout at her place and "Wendy, I got two kitty here and I think you might want to meet them." Oh my goodness! Of course I do! So I quickly got changed and met her soon later. It was very kind of her to think about me and to present this wonderful offer! As you may see in the photos, Tiger and George are cute! I personally liked 6-month-old Tiger more than his 9-month-old brother George. However, I LOVE my very own Pipi the most! That's why I also posted some photos from Mom in this album. I miss my Pipi....

My Belated Birthday Gift

Can't be better!

Isabel, my close friend who I have known for around 17 years, put all these together. She told me to wait for a "package" with her famous hand-made cards earlier, and she even told me today: "it was delivered! Check your mailbox!" Before I rushed downstairs at 11:00 p.m., Isabel stopped me and sent a link (in Mandarin) with this surprise and her own words for me.

I cried. I laughed. She collected those photos from my current and previous online albums. She gathered those people I hearted, since 10 some years ago to recently. She picked a song that made perfect sense and flew so well with the photos, videos and captions. She deeply knew which few words could move me or make me smile. She knew me, even better than I knew myself.

Thank you my love Isabel. Thank you!

In Order to Become An Expert Blogger...

I'm learning how to use WordPress now, and when I get stuck, I went Google for some learning tools and I found this:

Blogger is easier to start and easier to become a master: check. WordPress takes longer time to get used to it but it's more powerful with many more resources/widget: check..... I also highly recommend the "Import" function on WordPress, because it allows me to import EVERYTHING from a Blogger blog to a WordPress Blog. To be precise, I can actually import multiple blogs I have under Blogger to a single WordPress blog! Hmm... hmmm...

What else to learn?
1. How to use Flickr (yes, I've been a loyal Picasa user for so long)
2. digg? del.icio.us? maybe also MySpace?

The very last comment in the learning process: computer science folks I knew did not even know what is WordPress. I reached some of them to ask for technical assistance and got a question mark back. Sweet~

Thanks for Chih-Hui's Visit

From Post-NU Life- CHW
Thanks for your impulse visit, I got to explore my city and my town one more time. Also thanks to your visit, I heard SO MANY interesting stories and comments that exist on (almost) another planet. Thanks to your visit, I totally realized that- yes, Aquarius people are freaks who LOVE freedom and crazy adventures!

Good luck for your studies in UPenn! I know you'll never get bored and you'll always find some entertainment for yourself. Keep me updated about your next journey on your blog!

P.S.: Chih-Hui is one of my internet friend. I have followed his blog about his military service life in Gambia for Taiwan since some years ago. He came to the US for study earlier this year and suddenly decided to come visit Chicago for spring break. From the first question "How's the weather in Chicago?" to "Hello I booked a flight to Chicago and will be there tomorrow" happened within 2 days!

Norton

Will NEVER Throw Away This Business Card- Lego

Thanks to Andy Sernovitz's kind sharing, I got the chance to see this super creative business card from Lego. Indeed, this idea is "product sample, world-of-mouth and networking" all in one. Can never find anything more ideal to make the best first impression! And according to Andy, Lego will make one that looks just like the employee. I want a job from them now!

This is a new song I learned to play tonight. I was not alone at the lobby, but I felt like I was. One song after another, I tried to release the pressure inside in a "silent" way. It was actually good that no one I knew was nearby to "force" me to pretend to be THE me, or to "force" me to say "I am okay I am fine." I can feel the tremble in my music you know? Every exhale, every pause, and all the unspoken emotions poured all at once onto my keyboard. Faces of my beloved ones came into my notes to sing with me, dance with me and just... be there for me again. And so I realize.....

REPEAT*##

哭過,但因著你,笑了;累過自責過,但因著你,釋懷了;
那些自以為獨一無二的事,想不到就在你身上看到了同樣的例子;

IKEA Everywhere @ Manhatten

"What business is IKEA in?" After I saw this commercial, I felt hearing Prof John Greening with one of his famous quote. CREATIVITY business it is. Thanks to..... well you probably knew already.... I got to see this "Good Design Can Make The Everyday A Little Better" commercial. IKEA places its products around 600 corners in New York city to attract people's attention and to promote the "a little better life" idea. I love this showcase a lot, especially when IKEA always have colorful products to make cold life so bright and colorful. How about you?

Pedro Played Guitar and Sing for Me, Again

Every time I felt frustrated or down, Pedro always knew the way to comfort me and to cheer me up. No matter how far apart we were: W-Taiwan vs P-Brazil; W-US vs P-China; W-US vs P-Brazil, he ALWAYS could share some words of wisdom to me, or some distant company, or some magic- like a song played and sang by him- to brighten up my day. I still remembered he once quickly learned to sing 寶貝(張懸) within 30 minutes, played his guitar and sang to me while I was so troubled in the office. Another time when I was quite desperate, he also responded to my request by singing that song to me again.

This time, I was frustrated by the never-ending job searching process. Well... honestly, also something else. Pedro listened, commented and suggested solutions. Before he had to leave, he volunteered to play and sing a song for me: "but it'll be in Portuguese." I didn't mind at all~ That sounds perfect and exotic~ When the music flew, the only thing I could feel suddenly is happiness and peace. I felt loved, blessed and calm.

"Wendy honey, please take some pills to ease your headache. And please, don't feel bad about yourself. Don't feel useless. Those are not true. Got confidence in you."

I felt much better afterwards, for I knew at least this somebody cares. And this somebody- gave me a lot of strength to move on already. Magic.

love distance from sunstar on Vimeo.

iPhone+ Uniliver+ Axe+ (Faux-)Flash = Dirty Night Determinator AND $$

(Brain.com) I first heard about this new mobile marketing campaign. Greystripe uses Faux-Flash technology to display a game "Dirty Night Determinator" on iPhone targeting at male 18-24. According to a survey by ComScore, those who played the game on iPhone became more interested in trying Axe products. (interest rate from 59% to 74%: 15% increase!) For this kind of economy, that IS a great leap!

The medium rectangle ads – see above are delivered to the phone. The Greystripe ads powered by flash allow instant one click connection with the ads and the use.

56% of all respondents that interacted with the phone expressed interest in buying the product - 35% didn't react to the advert.

Men loved the ad most with a 62% interaction rate expressing an interest to buy.

One Whole Month

Left, maybe. Tick tuck tick tuck.

I used to be afraid of not getting employed before my time expires. Now I'm afraid of something else as well. Both would be unfortunate, while the latter might be even more heartbreaking. The cruel reality is: I cannot control either result. In some sense, I have to take both quietly, regardless. Indeed, the point of no return is approaching. That actually happened in my life for quite some times already- it's no news. It's just..... when I grow older, I start to doubt how many more times can I bear that to tear me apart.

Welcome, March. Welcome, my deepest fear.

Skittles' New Site Is the Social Web

According to the report from Advertising Age, Skittle's move was not an innovative one, but it indeed exemplified the power and the spirit of social media/Web 2.0. I was confused about one thing though: since all the contents on the site were not provided by Skittle, how did they plan to show the value of the brand, to deliver the brand message to their clients, and many other things that were communicated by a traditional Web site? Also, I have heard some feedback that consumers thought the term of service (acknowledges the content beyond this page is not Skittles content) irresponsible. Any thoughts?

But It Looks a Lot Like Modernista's Online Offering (from Advertising Age)

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- The new Skittles website, just out from Agency.com, looks awfully familiar. In fact, it's virtually the same concept as Modernista's website, introduced a year ago.

The site is not really a site at all but an overlay that lives on top of Web 2.0 content, such as Wikipedia, Facebook and Flickr. When you head to skittles.com, you're prompted to enter your age and agree to a terms of service that acknowledges that the content beyond this page is not Skittles content.

Skittles' site on Facebook is the marketer's attempt at co-opting Web 2.0.

The site then loads Skittles' Wikipedia page with a rectangular navigation overlay: Click on "Friends" and it takes you to the company's Facebook page; click on "Chatter" and you're taken to the Twitter feed. The release announcing the site said the landing page will change regularly. While it's Wikipedia today it might be its YouTube channel tomorrow. (The time when I visited, Twitter page welcomed me) ....continue reading...

Engineer vs. Manager (Shared by Andy S.)

A man is flying in a hot air balloon and realizes he is lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts: "Excuse me, can you tell me where I am?"

The man below says: "Yes, you're in a hot air balloon, hovering 30 feet above this field."

You must be an engineer" says the balloonist.

"I am" replies the man. "How did you know."

"Well," says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but it's no use to anyone."

The man below says "you must be in management."

"I am" replies the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," says the man, "you don't know where you are, or where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault."

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Hits Shelves in the US

Info from PR Newswire: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Hits Shelves in the United States

I am by no means a mobile phone fan, but it's always interesting to see what's going on in this rapid changing industry. I also checked some photos of this phone. It looks cool! (Photo from engadget) From the PR Newswire introduction and the photos, I believe the trend of the (existing and coming) mobiles includes the following parts: touch screen, high resolutions for photos and videos (films, Youtube clips, your own shootings, flicker), massive storages for songs in all major digital formats with good sound quality, built-in surround sound stereo, light, cool/sexy figure.

Who Linked to Your Site? These Helped Find Out

I was revisiting one of the articles I collected earlier: How to maximize the power of Google search engine to help your search (info in Mandarin). And I ran one of the functions- "link:www.thesite.com"- to see if there are any sites that connects to mine (Daily Wendy). If so, who are those? (Maybe I can also figure out the "Why" at the same time). Luckily I also came across a very useful article listing all the free online software to check backlinks: "How To Check How Many Backlinks Your Site Has." So, here it goes, using "Daily Wendy" as an example to see how powerful and different are these tools.

1. Type in "link: wendysdreamland.blogspot.com" on Google search

2. Use SEO Pro's Link Checker
http://seopro.com.au/free-seo-tools/link-checker/
  • It shows that I have 2,713 backlinks (wow!) with a spreadsheet listing everything like this chart below
  • After putting the listings into a excel file and trying to figure out what is going on here, I discovered:
a: >90% them are from Fili's World (Wow!)
b: some from aggregation sites: feedburner, Sphere.com, technorati.com
c: some by me: LinkedIn, Twitter, Plurk, postcrossing, blogger, slideshare, inside IMC
d: a few by people I know well: ByteSurgery(Robin), Mom Goes Back (Eileen)

3. Use SubmitEdge's PageRank Checker Tool + Alexa Tool + Link Checker Tool http://www.submitedge.com/pr.html

  • Potential Revenue Streams From This Website:

Product Placement: $2 monthly (not much better)
Affiliate Marketing: $2 monthly (well...)
Independent Advertising: $0 monthly (so poor XD)

MY OBSERVATION SUMMARY
  • I don't know why these tools reported with these many different results. Number of backlinks ranged from 2,000 to nearly 7,000. Which one is closer to reality?
  • Blogs might not be included in some of the backlink tracking services, which is controversial. Why should they be excluded?
  • Apparently most of the tools did not conquer the "language" issue. As a long time blogger and online community participant, my backlink should show much more data. (So many records should be from Mandarin Web sites, e.g. Wretch.com, 104.com.tw, citifamily.com.tw, etc)
  • All my blogs are connected and share so many blacklinks. All are public and searchable. Where are they in this blacklink search?
  • How about my Picasa photo albums (all public and searchable)?
  • I knew so many more other blogs or Web sites were connected to my site. Where did they go?
  • Monetize your site with the dollar value ($) is a great and clear idea. Made sense!
I will try to find another Web site to run the analysis again to compare my discoveries. Let's see if "blogs" are outcasted.....

Life This Previous Week- Tired, Packed, Delighted

Monday to Friday, I went downtown Chicago for three days and had one-on-one conversation with many kind and helpful people, and I attended TECH cocktail to meet so many energetic IT people and recruiters on one occasion. The long eL/Intercampus shuttle/Metra ride exhausted me, but I was so inspired and so full of joy in the process.

Natalie, IMC '06 working for Microsoft, met me in the AON Center (yes, the "eraser building") for lunch and shared her amazing story about how she benefited from networking to get her current position. From our talk, however, I was so convinced that her getting the position was way beyond just lucky. She got the bright personality and talent to nail her missions.

After meeting Natalie, I met an old friend Cheryl around downtown NU medical school and loved the enjoyable catch-up with her. Hopefully I will get a job and she will get her PhD admission to Philadelphia or Seattle, so I can visit her there! Since the sun still shined, I stopped by Ivan's to pick up the presents Ann gave me and Nina. Without plan, I knew it might be inappropriate, but I still called Bee, who's also around that area, to see if I could go visit her and her lovely baby boy Anatole. He is such a big boy now!!!!! I loved him a lot when he smiled :) Guess what? He LOVES to smile!
From Post-NU Life- Anatole Baby~
Tuesday, I caught the early purple express to downtown as well to wait for the meeting with Pek Lee. She is such an energetic lady with her Kellogg EMBA and profound working experiences. She listened to my stories, provided me her generous suggestions, shared her observations about business in Asia, offered to share more contacts with me after our talk. Meeting her in Union Station for sure brightened up my day. Her strength and generosity allowed me to take a big smile with me for the rest of the day.
From Post-NU Life- Chicago Union Station
My postponed meeting with Marty on Wednesday was another hit. Never ever underestimate the power of connecting with your faculty! Marty's agency background made him a perfect person for me to consult with and to learn from when I am considering making contributions to the dynamic environment. Moreover, he was very efficient on keeping his promise- I connected with a lady called Annie in BBD Chicago that evening and set the appointment for next week already.

That day ended with a pleasant dinner with my Japanese girl friend, Rie in the Chemistry post-Doc program, in Panera Bread. She helped me learn more Japanese business culture and language. And..... if you followed me well, yes she helped review my self introduction in Japanese! Yay~

The next day I hit downtown to meet Amanda, IMC '07 working for Hyatt. Her resort marketing work sounds quite interesting and quite a perfect fit for her. Developing the kids program, golf program, spas made her work quite challenging, but at the same time full of learning. I told her I am also interested in combining my love in traveling with my work, so I would consider Expedia, Travelocity and hospitality industries such as hotel. She kindly analyze the current situation in the hotel part- with limited IMC practice. Amanda suggested me to check TravelZoo as well. To sum up, our meeting was another fruitful one for me.

I killed some time in a Cosi nearby before the TECH cocktail in the evening. And that's where I heard the song "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight." Another thing that worth pointing out was an email I received from Medill. I was invited to be one of the representatives for a prospective IMC students' recruiting event. There are so many generations of alum and I have so many brilliant classmates- especially many American, but I was invited to be the person to share my experiences. That was.... unbelievably awesome!

Then, TECH cocktail at John Barleycorn Wrigleyville. Huge crowd of people. Many new startups trying to sell their ideas and to attract people's attention. Way more people working in the IT, programming, web design, social media industries and recruiters looking for talents packed there. I accidentally met some people again from Twestival last week, bomped into Howard from Chicago TAP and his colleague, Aping's summer advisor Joi, and many more cool people. The most excited one was Craig, the Founder and CTO of Where I've Been. I saw the sticker and went to ask him how come he can get one.
"Well, because I work for the company."
COOL! Can you believe that they only have seven staff? Can you imagine such a great product was initiated and operated by such a tiny group? Oh BTW his accecent reminded me of my lovely Switzerland days...... Exactly, Craig is British, currently working in an office a little bit outside of Chicago.

After many days of running everywhere, I decided to have a layback Friday: sorting out some resources and connections I got from the wonderful talks, submitting resumes, getting a phone conversation with online marketing expert Steven H. introduced by professor Jim Carey, and taking a rest. The best part of the day? Piano at night. I took Z with me because he wanted to learn to play the piano. As a lazy and non-professional teacher, I still tried my best to teach him how to play a simple song. Gradually I think he would get it. Besides that, sure did I play some songs for entertainment! It was not only for myself, but also for him and other "audiences" in the lobby area of McManus.

"You played beautifully."

"I know :) "

We finally headed home around 00:30, when it's all dark. I was certain that I went to bed with a sweet smile and had a sweet dream, because everything was quite wonderful in the past week. Hope it is always like this :)

iPhone Developers' Success Formula?

No, I am still not an iPhone user, but that did not stop me from learning more about how this revolutionary product and its related services change people's lives and change the way of doing business. Thanks to Gino, a friend I met in Chicago Taiwan American Professionals (TAP), I got the chance to read this interesting post. Indeed, since iPhone start to let users design apps to enrich the usability of its platform, so many cool functions have been developed and made people's life much more interesting and convenient. Another example was my earlier post on the 25 best iPhone apps for outdoor activities. Those geniuses who devoted to the process, thus, got a full pocket for themselves. Sometimes much more than they could ever dream of. (from the post below...any top iPhone app is making its company roughly $5,000 to $10,000 a day....)

Are there any magic? Any tips? Read on, Read the quote I marked. You will find that the success formula can never be simpler.

See: iPhone Developers Go From Rags to Riches on WIRED Blog Network for the post

The iPhone is a revolutionary handset. But it is also the key to a virtual gold mine -- the iTunes App Store, where independent developers can become multimillionaires in just a year.....

Decrem's recipe for success with Tap Tap is similar to Trism's: Paying attention to detail; keeping the app engaging and alive with various forms of gameplay; and relying on those two factors to spread popularity with an old-fashioned marketing method -- word of mouth. Similar to Trism, Tap Tap Revenge was also an app that initially emerged in the Jailbreak community, and it spawned a loyal following there before breaking out into the broader market with the launch of the App Store.... continue reading

Into "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight"

Can't help it, I just hit replay and replay for so many times. This might not be the best version, but it appeased me. I wanted to light up a candle, tasted some wine, and then soaked into the flow of the music forever. And well, I will realize, I am still lonely, tonight.

Do me wrong, do me right,
Tell me lies but hold me tight,
Save your goodbyes for the morning light,
But don't let me be lonely tonight.

Say goodbye and say hello,
Sure enough good to see you, but it's time to go,
Don't say yes but please don't say no,
I don't want to be lonely tonight.

Go away then, damn you,
Go on and do as you please,
You ain't gonna see me gettin' down on my knees.
I'm undecided, and your hearts been divided,
You've been turning my world upside down.

Do me wrong, do me right (right now baby),
Go on and tell me lies but hold me tight.
Save your goodbyes for the morning light (morning light),
But don't let me be lonely tonight.
I don't want to be lonely tonight.
No, no, I don't want to be lonely tonight.

I don't want to be lonely tonight.

Face Detection Feature of Digital Camera Displayed This Creatively!

I thought this advertising is brilliant enough to emphasize the face detection feature of this Panasonic LUMIX. After checking the introduction provided by THESE BRILLIANT PEOPLE(外星人看廣告) and viewed the photos down below by Nikon, I was totally won over by Nikon COOLPIX S60.
Yes, it is smart to have face detection for the baby in the belly, but........
To "reveal" the hidden threat thanks to face detection looks much cooler, and.....To identify this kind of "faces" are.... beyond description!

Hope you enjoy all these as I do!

Snowy Happy Valentine's Day~

從室友Nina(CN)手中接過他們公司一不小心多給她的一塊情人節餅乾,喜孜孜的,我將她放入盤中拍了張漂亮的照片以茲紀念;

誤打誤撞的,參加了Jiunwen(SG)在朋友家辦的birthday party,吃了一桌Ling(CN)親手下廚的好菜、Whole Foods買來又漂亮又好吃的Fruit Tard蛋糕,喝了梅酒、白酒,生平第一次學打麻將也意外的贏了一局;
From 090213-Happy Birthday Jiunwen!

Twitter to brands: Tweet and it will cost you - iMedia Connection

From iMedia Connection

I doubt if this will work.... When the free service becomes something you have to pay for, there's always a big challenge. Also, I do not believe that there are no other services that could replace Twitter with equivalent high quality and wide-spread influence. Say, Plurk is a similar mini-blog service that's becoming more and more popular. Additionally, how can Twitter clearly distinguish the "personal use" and the so-called "commercial use" and to decide on charging or not accordingly?
It was only a matter of time before Twitter formally announced plans to begin charging for commercial accounts. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone has confirmed that the heavily-funded startup will begin charging companies for commercial use of the service, MarketingVOX reports.

....The difficulty for Twitter, of course, will be in determining what qualifies as commercial use and what's simply intended for self promotion.

This is used in London, and I personally liked its idea to use the steam to wash away all the dirty parts of the city and to imply/demonstrate the power of the steam used by its washing machine.

At the same time, I thought of another cute CM used by LG some years ago in Taiwan. It used a cute Korean girl and grabbed many audience' attention. I remembered that CM was very popular and was highly discussed. This following one is the shorter version, but the one I remembered is far cuter beyond this.

The lesson (Insight): Maybe British people care more about their city while Taiwanese/Asian people care more about their family? (Completely random guessing....)

Take Control

Cause Marketing and Social Responsibility - Kellogg Marketing Conference

Cause Marketing and Social Responsibility - Kellogg Marketing Conference

This is shared by one of the panelist: Rajan Dev, president of Hot Studio Inc. in San Francisco. I met him at the 2009 Kellogg Marketing Conference and got to know more about how to make cause marketing work. Rajan shared his perspectives based on the experiences in the marketing agency side. His business started to involve with so many cause marketing projects since it kicked off and gained reputation in the industry. Anyone who's interested in the concept of cause marketing or corporate social responsibilities(CSR) should take a look at it, and you will find it valuable. One part of the examples is included below:

During the course of the conversation, Kathy suggested a framework, which other members of the panel built upon for assessing whether cause marketing might be appropriate for a brand or product. The key components were:

1. Brand Alignment

2. Valued by the Community

3. Does it excite employees?

4. Longevity

5. Transparency and Progress
